Which Sonata generations come up in the Korean auction

Two generations make up almost all of the listings: the LF (2014–2019, facelifted in 2017 as the Sonata New Rise) and the current DN8 (2019 onwards, refreshed in 2023 as the Sonata The Edge). The DN8 brought the fastback roofline, the digital cluster and Hyundai's SmartSense driver assistance as standard on most trims.

Korean-market engines differ from the Gulf line-up. The DN8 is sold with a 2.0 MPI petrol, a 1.6 T-GDI, a 2.0 hybrid and a 2.0 LPG (LPi) engine; the Sensuous N Line adds a 2.5 turbo. Gulf-spec Sonatas use the 2.5 petrol, so a Korean 2.0 MPI or 1.6 turbo is the usual choice for buyers who want a petrol car with straightforward parts supply.

What to check before you bid

The Sonata is Korea's taxi and rental-fleet sedan, so many listings are ex-fleet LPG cars with high mileage. The official inspection report shows the fuel type and the usage history (private, rental, business); we read it for you and flag fleet cars before you bid.

On LF models check the panel-replacement section of the inspection report (bumpers and fenders are the common accident repairs). On the DN8 confirm the trim: Premium and Inspiration trims carry the larger screen, ventilated seats and the full driver-assistance package that resells best in the Gulf.

Why Gulf buyers choose the Korean-market Sonata

Korean domestic cars are left-hand drive and metric like Gulf cars, and Hyundai's Korean trims are usually better equipped than the equivalent export trim. The navigation maps are Korea-only, so most buyers use phone mirroring (Android Auto / Apple CarPlay are on the DN8) or replace the head unit locally.

The Sonata ships as a sedan-size car, so the freight rates in our calculator apply directly: use it with the live price above to see the landed cost at Jeddah or Dammam.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a used Hyundai Sonata in Korea?

Most Hyundai Sonata cars in the Korean auction right now (80% of listings) are priced between $3,841 and $20,507, with a median of $9,783 — half cost $9,783 or less. These are auction prices in Korea before shipping and customs; the exact price depends on year, mileage and trim.

How much does it cost to import a Hyundai Sonata from Korea to Saudi Arabia?

As an indicative example at our calculator rates for a sedan-size car (updated 2026-07), a Hyundai Sonata at the median auction price of $9,783 comes to about $12,133 to Jeddah on the Red Sea or $11,933 to Dammam on the Arabian Gulf. That covers the car, Korean export fees, sea freight and our service commission; it excludes Saudi Arabia's customs duties, taxes and port clearance, which your customs broker handles on arrival. Enter any car's price in the import cost calculator, then we send you a final written quote on WhatsApp.

Calculate import cost
How long does shipping a Hyundai Sonata from Korea to Saudi Arabia take?

Sailing from Busan to Jeddah or Dammam takes about 25–35 days depending on the shipping line, plus 3–5 days for export de-registration and preparation in Korea and the clearance days at the arrival port. You can ship RoRo (cheaper and faster to load) or in a container (more protection).

Importing from Korea to Saudi Arabia: full guide
Does a Korean-market Hyundai Sonata meet Saudi Arabia's import requirements?

That depends on the specific car and on the rules in force when you import: requirements such as vehicle age and specification differ by country and change over time. So before you pay, we confirm the current requirements for the exact car you choose, and we prepare the export certificate, commercial invoice, bill of lading and inspection report your customs broker uses to clear it on arrival.

Can I inspect a Hyundai Sonata before buying?

Yes — we send the official inspection report and all photos, and an additional independent inspection can be arranged before payment.

Is the Korean Sonata the same as the Gulf Sonata?

Same body and platform, different engines: Korea sells the 2.0 MPI, 1.6 turbo, hybrid and LPG versions, while Gulf dealers sell the 2.5 petrol. Body panels, suspension and interior parts are shared, and we supply any Korean-only parts from Korea.

How do I avoid an ex-taxi Sonata?

The Korean inspection report lists the car's usage history and fuel type. Taxis and rental cars are LPG and show as business use; we check every car's report before you bid and tell you if it was a fleet car.
