Twins with different personalities
The Hyundai Sonata (DN8, 2019 on) and the Kia K5 (DL3, 2019 on) share a platform and Korean engines: a 2.0 MPI petrol, a 1.6 turbo, a 2.0 hybrid and a 2.0 LPG. The Sonata leans elegant and comfortable, the K5 sportier and popular with younger buyers. Before 2020 the K5 was sold abroad as the Optima.
Watch for ex-taxi and rental cars
Both are among Korea's most common taxi and rental cars, usually LPG and high-mileage. The inspection report shows fuel type and usage history; we read it for you and flag fleet cars before you bid. For most Gulf buyers a privately owned petrol car is the right pick.
Which engine for the Gulf?
Gulf dealers sell both with a 2.5 petrol that Korea doesn't offer. The closest matches are the 2.0 MPI (simple, parts everywhere) or the 1.6 turbo (more performance). Both are sedan-size, so the freight rates in the calculator apply directly.
Frequently asked questions
Is the K5 the same car as the Optima?
Yes. K5 is the Korean name; it was sold abroad as the Optima until 2020, when it became the K5 everywhere.
