Hyundai in the Korean auction: the same cars, different names

Hyundai is Korea's largest carmaker and the biggest brand in the Korean used-car auction. Several models carry a different name at home than in the Gulf: the Avante is the Elantra, the Grandeur is the Azera, and the Grand Starex is the H-1, replaced in 2021 by the Staria. The Sonata, Tucson, Santa Fe and Palisade keep their names.

Some Hyundais are Korea-only, such as the Casper light SUV, and the brand's former luxury models, the Hyundai Genesis sedan and the Equus, continue today under the separate Genesis brand.

Choosing a Korean-market Hyundai

Korean engines often differ from Gulf ones: Korea favours smaller turbo petrols, hybrids, diesels and LPG, while Gulf dealers sell larger petrol engines. Each model page above explains which Korean engine is the closest match to the Gulf version for parts and service.

The popular sedans (Sonata, Avante, Grandeur) are also Korea's taxi and rental cars, usually as LPG versions. The inspection report shows the fuel type and the usage history, and we flag fleet cars before you bid. Korean trims are generally better equipped than the equivalent export trims.

Hyundai parts and service

Hyundai has dealers and parts networks across the Gulf, the Middle East and Africa, so service for a Korean-market Hyundai is routine; anything Korea-specific we supply from Korea through our Hyundai parts service, matched by VIN.

Same bodies and platforms, often different engines and richer trims. Some models also have different names: Avante (Elantra), Grandeur (Azera), Grand Starex (H-1). Each model page explains the differences.
